We currently have an excellent opportunity for an Electronics Engineer to join our organization.  This position would be based in Itasca, Illinois or Guadalajara, Mexico.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, modify and implements embedded firmware for new and existing products.

 

  • Captures and clarifies customer requirements and prepares detailed documentation of firmware requirements for new products and/or modifications or upgrades to existing products

 

  • Defines firmware architecture and creates detailed firmware design; personally, develops and/or oversees the development of prototypes by third-party vendors

 

  • Leads firmware design verification; reviews firmware design with internal team and/or customers and ensures customer and internal requirements have been met

 

  • Leads firmware testing through writing test plans, conducting testing, documenting results, etc.  Ensures firmware is validated (which may take place through an independent party) and supporting documentation exists

 

  • Investigates failures and debugs firmware to meet technical/functional requirements

 

  • Prepares firmware for implementation and manages release of firmware to production

 

  • Develops firmware-specific project plans that are in line with the master project plan; identifies risk factors (e.g., timeline, cost) and makes project team members (e.g., other Engineers, Project Manager, Product Manager) aware of possible challenges and potential solutions

 

  • Controls the scope of work, ensuring that customer requests that exceed the defined requirements are handled appropriately and raised to appropriate decision-makers, as needed

 

  • Provides customer support  to resolve problems and implement firmware modifications or upgrades

 

  • Complies with Robertshaw engineering processes (e.g., PDP)  and quality standards

 

  • Develops and applies best practice firmware development techniques to firmware designs and makes recommendations for product enhancements

 

  • Serves as a mentor to other engineers, providing them opportunities to develop technical skills and customer relationship competence

Qualifications

Requirements

 

  • Ability to read schematics, analog design, and digital design

 

  • Architecture Design: State machines, UML

 

  • Software Design for Noise Immunity

 

  • Ability to develop and implement project schedules and engineering change notifications

 

  • Awareness of applicable agency and industry standards affecting design in order to select appropriate design changes

 

  • DFM analysis experience

 

  • Results driven, energetic, self-motivating and self-directed, strong sense of urgency

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or other technical-based degree

 

  • Experience with full firmware development cycle and designing firmware for production required

 

  • Experience with embedded firmware for 8-bit microcontrollers in C required; Experience with embedded firmware for 32-bit microcontrollers in C and C++ preferred

 

  • Experience with writing requirements and test plans required

 

  • Relevant industry experience (e.g., appliance, water heating, HVAC, automotive, commercial refrigeration) desired

 

  • Experience working in a high-volume, quality control-focused manufacturing environment desired
